Chance Carpenter

Chance is a PhD student in the Graduate School of Education and School of Medicine at Stanford University, where his research explores place-based education and Indigenous epistemologies. An enrolled Hupa Tribal member with Yurok, Karuk, Wyandot, and North Carolina Cherokee descendancies, Chance's work examines the ecological overlaps between education, business administration, and community health to address shifting baselines and their downstream impacts through upstream considerations and policy changes. His research interests span identity and culture, contemporary rites of passage programming, Native American traditional healing and mental health, and cross-cultural studies. He holds a Masters in Education from Cal Poly Humboldt State and a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity from Stanford.
