Ryan O’Connor

Emmett Interdisciplinary Program on Environment and Resources

Ryan is a PhD Student in the Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources (E-IPER), and his research seeks to understand how local communities connect with and participate in the management of ocean resources. Drawing from theories of environmental governance and social psychology, Ryan applies ecological assessment and social science methodologies to gain insight into how future ocean governance can drive positive biological and social outcomes.Prior to joining EIPER, Ryan worked in the private sector as an environmental policy consultant and certified floodplain manager, and served as a Logistics Policy Officer in the US Navy after completing undergraduate work in Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia.
