Anncy Thresher

Ann C. (Anncy) Thresher is an assistant professor in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University. She was formerly a postdoctoral fellow at the Stanford Doerr School for Sustainability and McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society. She is an environmental ethicist and philosopher of science who received her PhD in Philosophy from UC San Diego in 2022. Her research focuses on the risks and benefits of synthetic biology and gene-drives, emerging environmental technologies, and invasive species control. She also works on the ethical obligations of scientists to the public and environment. She is a member of the Next Generation Event Horizon Telescope collaboration where she leads their responsible siting group, which aims to integrate community and environmental factors into decisions of where to build telescopes. Her recently published book, 'The Tangle of Science,' argues for why we should trust the outputs of science.
